Access to quality healthcare remains a distant reality for many rural communities across India. Yet good health is shaped by much more than medical care alone. Clean drinking water, sanitation, health awareness and strong community infrastructure all play a vital role in improving quality of life. Recognising this, the Shyam Metalics Foundation launched SEHAT, its flagship healthcare and community well-being initiative, with a vision to create healthier, more resilient villages.
SEHAT goes beyond conventional healthcare interventions. Designed as an integrated community development programme, it combines mobile medical services, preventive healthcare awareness, drinking water initiatives, homeopathic care, sanitation projects and infrastructure development to address the root causes of poor health outcomes. By bringing essential healthcare closer to underserved populations and improving the ecosystem in which they live, SEHAT is helping transform lives across rural West Bengal and Odisha. The programme’s integrated intervention model spans healthcare delivery, awareness, clean water access and community infrastructure.
Today, SEHAT has touched the lives of more than 74,800 beneficiaries across 49 villages, making it one of the Foundation’s most impactful social initiatives. At the heart of the programme is its mobile healthcare outreach, which bridges critical access gaps by taking primary healthcare services directly to remote communities. These efforts are complemented by health awareness campaigns focused on preventive care, nutrition, hygiene and wellness, empowering communities with the knowledge needed to make informed health choices.
In West Bengal, SEHAT has benefited 48,641 people across 21 villages. The programme conducted six health-awareness campaigns involving 2,831 participants, while also strengthening water security through the installation of five bore wells and the deployment of 10 drinking-water tanks serving multiple villages. Affordable and accessible healthcare was further extended through homeopathic clinics, which reached 7,610 beneficiaries across five villages.
Beyond healthcare delivery, SEHAT has invested in strengthening community infrastructure. The Foundation supported the renovation of a Health Care Centre (HCC) and constructed 47 toilets across three tribal villages, improving sanitation standards and promoting healthier living conditions.

In Odisha, the initiative has reached 26,190 beneficiaries across 28 villages. More than 756 community members participated in healthcare awareness programmes, while drinking water was supplied through tanker services across all 28 villages, helping address a critical need and improving access to safe water for thousands of households.
What sets SEHAT apart is its holistic approach. Rather than addressing healthcare, water, sanitation and awareness as separate challenges, the programme brings them together under a single platform for community well-being. Every intervention, whether a mobile medical consultation, a water-supply initiative or a sanitation project, contributes towards building healthier and more self-sufficient communities.
Looking ahead, the Shyam Metalics Foundation aims to further expand SEHAT by strengthening partnerships with local health agencies, community healthcare workers and village institutions. The programme plans to deepen its mobile healthcare network, broaden preventive health initiatives and scale water and sanitation interventions to reach more villages in the years to come.
