Angul, 12 May, 2026 Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) facilitated the inauguration of a series of community-centric infrastructure projects in Angul district, Odisha, reaffirming its commitment to enabling sustainable and inclusive development across communities. The projects were inaugurated by Pratap Chandra Pradhan, Hon’ble MLA, Angul, in the presence of Lochan Das, Block Development Officer, Banarpal, Pradip Kumar Sahu, Secretary, Talcher-Angul-Meramandali Development Authority (TAMDA), along with representatives from community leaders, and residents.

Together, these initiatives are expected to benefit over 24,000 people across the region, addressing key priorities of public safety, education, renewable energy, and community welfare.

A flagship intervention under the programme is the illumination of a 20-kilometre road stretch from Santri Chowk to Mahidharpur through the installation of 466 solar-powered streetlights. Implemented in response to a request from the District Forest Officer, Angul, the project addresses critical safety challenges in a forest-adjacent landscape prone to frequent elephant movement and incidents of human–elephant conflict. Improved night-time visibility is expected to ensure safer mobility for commuters and nearby communities.

The initiative is projected to benefit approximately 18,640 people. Beyond enhancing safety, the solar lighting project contributes to environmental sustainability through estimated annual savings of 43.8 MWh of conventional power and a reduction of nearly 35.04 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Strengthening public infrastructure further, Tata Steel Foundation has developed a Public Rest Shed and Market Complex at Banarpal Square, a key transit and commercial junction connecting Angul, Talcher, Meramandali, and surrounding areas. Designed to provide safe, hygienic, and accessible amenities, the facility serves daily commuters, market users, women, elderly citizens, and local residents, particularly during extreme weather conditions. The project is expected to benefit around 5,000 people, enhancing comfort, convenience, and public safety.

In the education domain, TSF has supported the construction of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology laboratories at Panchagarh Somnath Singh Jagadev (PSSJ) Degree Mahavidyalaya, Banarpal. The initiative includes laboratory furniture and scientific equipment, development of the college playground, and installation of a 5 kW solar rooftop power system to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during practical sessions. The project is expected to benefit nearly 1,250 students across Science, Arts, and Commerce streams by strengthening access to quality science education and experiential learning.

Through these initiatives, Tata Steel Foundation continues to work closely with communities to create safer spaces, greener infrastructure and resilient public systems, contributing meaningfully to sustainable development outcomes across Odisha.
