Tata Steel Foundation’s SABAL Initiative Facilitates Distribution of Assistive Devices to Divyangs and Senior Citizens

~ Distribution of Assistive Devices under Government’s RVY and ADIP Schemes worth ₹42.42 Lakh to 322 Beneficiaries

~ Battery operated Motorised Tricycles to empower 23 Divyangs

February 17, 2026, Kalinganagar: Sabal, an initiative of Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), has started facilitating a large-scale Assistive Devices Distribution Drive for Divyangs and senior citizens in Danagadi Block. The drive started on Tuesday at Trijanga will conclude on February 20, 2026 benefitting a total of 322 beneficiaries.

322 beneficiaries include 275 senior citizens (60+ years) and 47 Divyangs who will receive assistive devices worth ₹42,42,664 under the Government of India’s Rastriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) and Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) schemes, respectively.

This is under Sabal – PMDK (Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendra) initiative with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), under the Ministry of Social Justice Government of India. The assessment was carried out in Danagadi Block with active support from the Block Social Security Officer and Sarpanchs, ensuring effective last-mile delivery of services.

On the first day, in an event attended by Kagazi Patra, Sarpanch, Trijanga and Hemanjali Patti,Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO), Trijanga at Panchayat Bhawan, Trijanga in the presence of senior officials of Tata Steel Foundation, 100 beneficiaries received the assistive devices including 21 motorised tricycles and 3 wheelchairs.

The assistance to divyangs for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) Scheme aims to enhance their functional abilities by providing quality assistive devices that promote mobility, self-reliance, and social inclusion. The Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) supports BPL senior citizens with age-related disabilities by providing free assisted-living devices to improve their independence and daily living.

A key highlight of the programme is the distribution of 23 motorised tricycles to eligible divyangs from Danagadi, Harichandpur, and Sukinda Blocks, significantly enhancing their independent mobility. Other assistive devices include wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, silicon cushions, and other customised aids based on individual assessments.

Operating across Danagadi and Sukinda Blocks of Jajpur district, Sabal follows a block saturation model to ensure comprehensive identification, certification, and government scheme linkage for Divyangs.
