Birla Global University Kicks Off Academic Year 2026 for Commerce and Economics Programs

Birla Global University (BGU), one of eastern India’s leading institutions of higher education, welcomed its new batch of students through the Commencement Day Programme 2026, marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey for learners across the B.Com (2026–30), M.Com (2026–28), MBA (Fintech) (2026–28), B.Sc. Economics (2026–30) and M.Sc. Economics (2026–28) programmes. The event was jointly organised by the Birla School of Commerce and the Birla School of Economics.

The programme was graced by Ms. Reetika Sood, Director – Talent Acquisition, APAC, AML RightSource, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Amit Jagam, Regional Head, AU Small Finance Bank, attended as the Guest of Honour. The dignitaries were joined by Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, Birla Global University, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Sanyal, Dean, Birla School of Commerce, Dr. Ajit Kumar Dash, Dean, Birla School of Economics and Mr. Tanmay Kumar Pattanayak, Registrar, along with faculty members, alumni, staff and students.

Delivering the Commencement Day address, Ms. Reetika Sood said, Learning never stops. Every person you meet and every experience you gain teaches you something new. Stay curious, remain focused, and always be ready to adapt in this era of constant change.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Amit Jagam noted, “As India emerges as a global economic powerhouse, you have the privilege of shaping its future. Build your value and seize every opportunity.”

Addressing the incoming students, Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, Vice Chancellor, pointed out; “Fortune isn’t created by chance—it is built on mindset and consistent effort. Real education goes beyond textbooks to foster daily curiosity. To give our Commerce and Economics students a distinct competitive edge in the global marketplace, BGU has introduced compulsory French language training alongside core academics.”

Welcoming the new batch, Prof. Pradipta Kumar Sanyal, Dean, Birla School of Commerce, said, “Textbooks help you understand concepts, but real learning comes from experience. Embrace practical exposure and leverage AI and emerging technologies to learn faster, think smarter, and stay ahead.”

Sharing his thoughts, Dr. Ajit Kumar Dash, Dean, Birla School of Economics, remarked, “Today marks the beginning of a new journey toward your dreams and ambitions. We live in a rapidly changing world—embrace change, adapt to it, and become the change.”

Extending his best wishes to the students, Mr. Tanmay Kumar Pattanayak, Registrar, added, “As you begin this new journey and prepare to enter the global marketplace, remember that success has no shortcuts. Trust the process, work with integrity, and your goals will follow.”

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Lopamudra Nayak, Assistant Professor, Birla School of Commerce.

The Commencement Day served as a platform to formally induct the incoming students into the BGU community, introducing them to the University’s academic ethos, values and commitment to excellence. It also provided students with an opportunity to interact with faculty members, industry leaders and alumni, setting the tone for a transformative learning experience and future professional success.
