Bhubaneswar, June 1, (Newshub desk)– Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has unveiled an ambitious modernisation plan for the historic Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar.
His visit to the site today marked the beginning of a transformative initiative to restore the studio’s legacy and support the growth of Odia cinema.
Established in 1980, Kalinga Studio was once the premier film production centre in Eastern India, but saw a decline due to outdated infrastructure.
The new government under CM Majhi is prioritising its revival with state-of-the-art upgrades aimed at making it a self-sustaining hub for filmmakers.
The first phase of development includes several enhancements, such as an indoor shooting facility, entrance plaza, tech building, and themed areas like Snow World and Kalinga Movie Magic.
The Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) is overseeing the modernisation efforts.
During his visit, CM Majhi emphasised the importance of the project. “The development of Kalinga Studio is essential for the growth of the Odia film industry.
We will equip it with all modern facilities to make it a self-sustaining studio,” he stated.
He also assured that the project would involve consultations with industry stakeholders to ensure an effective transformation.
Government officials, including Minister of Industries and Skill Development Sampad Charan Swain, were present to discuss the next steps.
With this revitalisation, Odisha aims to regain its standing in the Indian cinematic landscape, fostering creativity, employment, and cultural pride.
