Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological conservation, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, organised a large-scale tree plantation drive across Western Odisha to commemorate Van Mahotsav Week 2026. Led by its CSR team, the programme was implemented in collaboration with implementing partner, Alok, in line with this year’s Van Mahotsav theme, “A Tree Today, A Thousand Smiles Tomorrow.” Through this initiative, TPWODL planted more than 4,300 saplings across its operational areas.
A plantation programme was organised at Sambalpur University, Burla, on 5th July where students, faculty members, community leaders, Forest Department officials and TPWODL employees came together to plant 1,000 saplings. The drive was led by Mr. Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL, Prof. Bidhu Bhusan Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Sambalpur University, and Ms. Roshni Nayak, Forester, Burla. More than 250 volunteers participated in the event, reflecting a shared commitment towards environmental conservation. One of the most heartening highlights of the programme was the active participation of young children, whose enthusiasm symbolised hope and responsibility for a greener and more sustainable future.
In addition to the flagship event at Burla, TPWODL carried out extensive plantation drives across Western Odisha, planting 1,000 saplings in Sundergarh, 700 in Kalahandi, 1,000 in Sambalpur, and over 1,500 saplings across TPWODL offices, schools and community spaces, taking the total plantation to more than 4,300 saplings. The initiative was undertaken across all nine operational districts, with active participation from local communities, educational institutions and employees, creating a collective movement towards environmental stewardship.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL, said, “At TPWODL, sustainability is embedded in the way we operate and engage with the communities we serve. Every tree planted today is an investment in a healthier environment and a more resilient tomorrow. Through initiatives like Van Mahotsav, we aim to inspire individuals, especially the younger generation, to become active custodians of nature. As a responsible power utility, our goal extends beyond delivering reliable electricity—we are equally committed to creating a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Western Odisha while contributing to Tata Power’s broader vision of environmental stewardship and sustainable development.”
Through its CSR initiatives, TPWODL continues to promote afforestation, biodiversity conservation, environmental awareness and community participation as key pillars of its sustainability journey. By encouraging collective action and nurturing environmental consciousness among citizens, the company remains committed to supporting Odisha’s green development agenda and creating long-term environmental and social value for the communities it serves.
