Bhubaneswar, Sept 22 — A tragic incident at Capital Hospital has ignited public outrage after an infant reportedly died due to alleged medical negligence.
The child’s father, an auto-rickshaw driver, claims a wrong injection was administered, leading to the fatal outcome.
In response, members of the Smart Online Auto Association staged a protest, blocking traffic from Airport Square to Capital Hospital Square. The demonstration escalated briefly when police attempted to disperse the crowd.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow and announced Rs 4 lakh in financial assistance to the grieving family. Health Director Amarendra Mohanty confirmed that a preliminary investigation is underway, with a special committee assigned to probe the matter further.
The hospital maintains that the child was brought in critical condition and received appropriate treatment.
The incident has reignited concerns over healthcare standards in government hospitals, prompting calls for systemic reforms and greater accountability.
