As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, Shyam Metalics Foundation conducted a maternal and child health awareness campaign in West Bengal to promote informed breastfeeding practices and support healthier beginnings for mothers and infants.
Organised in collaboration with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Centres, the initiative reached 120 pregnant and lactating women across Bahadurpur and Hizalgora Panchayats, focusing on breastfeeding awareness, maternal well-being and infant nutrition.
The campaign brought together mothers, healthcare workers and community members for interactive sessions aimed at building awareness around the importance of breastfeeding during the early stages of a child’s development. Discussions also covered maternal nutrition, preventive healthcare and the role of family support in ensuring better health outcomes for both mothers and children.
Recognising that awareness is often the first step towards healthier communities, the programme encouraged open dialogue and knowledge-sharing, enabling participants to better understand the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and proper infant nutrition. The initiative also highlighted the importance of creating a supportive environment for mothers during pregnancy and early motherhood.
The campaign forms part of Shyam Metalics Foundation’s broader commitment to community healthcare and well-being. Through its healthcare initiatives, the Foundation continues to work towards improving health awareness, strengthening access to essential health services and promoting better quality of life in rural communities.
Empowering mothers with the right knowledge can have a lasting impact on both maternal and child health and helps build healthier families and communities. Through initiatives such as these, Shyam Metalics Foundation remains committed to advancing community health and supporting the well-being of mothers and children across its areas of operation.
