Bhubaneswar: In a symbolic step towards austerity and energy conservation, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered his official convoy to be reduced by half.
The decision follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal urging citizens to cut down on fuel consumption amid rising global crude prices caused by tensions in West Asia.
Majhi directed the immediate downsizing of his security and escort vehicles, highlighting that leadership must set the example in times of crisis.
He also appealed to the people of Odisha to adopt fuel‑saving practices such as limiting personal car use, switching to public transport, avoiding unnecessary travel, postponing non‑essential foreign trips, and refraining from buying gold for now.
The move has drawn attention nationwide, positioning Majhi as a role model for ministers and officials.
His action underscores how discipline at the top can inspire collective sacrifice, reinforcing the message that small steps by individuals can significantly contribute to India’s energy security.
