Puri: In a significant step towards strengthening security at the 12th‑century Jagannath Temple, authorities have installed an advanced bag scanner at the Singhadwar (Lion’s Gate).

The device will screen all small bags, purses, and personal belongings carried by devotees, ensuring that prohibited items such as mobile phones, hidden cameras, and other restricted objects do not enter the shrine premises.

Temple servitors and intellectuals have welcomed the move, calling it timely and essential for safeguarding the sanctity of the Srimandir.

With millions of pilgrims visiting the temple annually, the scanner is expected to streamline entry while preserving the spiritual atmosphere.

This initiative aligns the Srimandir with other major religious sites across India that are adopting modern technology to balance tradition with safety.
